The Australian National University

Canberra

ColonySix was the Development Manager of the $300M, 42,000m2 redevelopment at the heart of the Australian National University’s Acton Campus, now known as Kambri.

ColonySix managed the project from its inception in 2013, undertaking precinct master planning and stakeholder engagement; through development planning, design, construction and leasing; to the project’s completion in 2019, and subsequent operational stabilisation. The project comprised six different buildings: teaching, events, health and leisure, performance venues, student accommodation, student administration and services, along with 45 retail tenancies.

Planned over several years, yet constructed in just 20 months, the project showcased ColonySix’s ability to manage complicated mixed-use projects in complex stakeholder environments; meet tight project timelines; and position projects to attract external investment capital. The unique qualities of the Kambri project such as delivery of an ‘urban village’ concept within the campus; its distinct urban grain and scale; and its sustainability and social outcomes; have been recognised as exceptional among university redevelopment projects.
